Philippine Politics: Lights, Camera, Over Acting!

First off, “OA” as we all are familiar with, stands for “Over Acting” of which we likewise use for our “over reaction” to things. It’s just as much as how we exaggeratedly get either Offensively Averting or being defensively offensive about anything. Anything we overly do is deemed “OA” as exemplified. As if we’re all acting, we Outwardly Assume a different character when confronted with the opposite of what we stand for and yet switch back off when the lights and camera are likewise turned off. Artista yan?! Triggered to Overly Act on it with an over-the-top reaction. And most often than not, it’s publicized for all the box office hits’ worth. Trending! An audience is rather sought for convincing purposes. Those Of Age and Older Adults no less, while the Over-Aged usually compare generations, the role we are most “OA” personifying yet is being the overly Opinionated Analysts that we are. We practically have an opinion on everything and overly so when it’s about politics. We are as well overly critical against opposing viewpoints despite being aware of the expected differing beliefs and perceptions nonetheless. Iba iba naman tayo diba… This isn’t about generalizing Philippine society in its entirety but it’s similarly “OA” how the most “Outspoken Angle” that we see and hear seems to represent the majority… And by all means as “OA” as these loud mouths, they’re similarly “OA” in the category of fanaticism, factionalism and blind faith/blind loyalty, even blind activism regardless of affiliation. Speaking of which, this is precisely about that actually. Ironically, it’s in line with “acting”. It substantiated “OA” further when those into acting entered politics. Whereas, the non-showbiz politicians seem to be portraying such a “starring role” for all the acting accolades worthy of an Emmy err “eme” ~ eme lang, ang “OA”, emerged (e-mer-ged)… For all the publicity-worthy kind of “method acting” (or should I say “acting as a method” ~ an “Occupational Attitudinizing” strategy to OverAwe or impress) though, they’re all deserving of an “Oscar Awards” nomination perhaps, showbiz or non-showbiz. Nothing beats the “braced-neck-&-wheel-chair act” though…

“Lights, Camera, Over Acting!”

Starring Robin Padilla, Philip Salvador, Willie Revillame, Jinggoy Estrada, Bong Revilla, Lito Lapid and the cast err list goes on… From these “best actors”, all except Willie, a comedian and TV host, are action stars sans the high-stake action. According to Revillame himself, he’s clueless as to how to be a senator and his action plan will come later when voted in. They’re proving to be better dramatic actors. As “OA” as the unfolding drama in every political scene, their every posturing and grandstanding seem to be from a sensational script. With bravado, lines like Bong Revilla’s “Nakakalalaki ka na eh!” aimed at then Senate President Migz Zubiri gets delivered with the intent to “boldly” take on such a challenge yet “unable to do so” as dramatized with a limp supported by crutches. As “OA” as the Oral Arguments of senators regarding that “Online Attendance” trivial issue and the Opposing Acts from both ends, Zubiri “toed the line” and it has been Outwardly Assumed that it’s what ended his senate presidency. “Outnumbered, Alienated”, he got “kicked out” with Revilla “footing the bill” as well, although about a year later, after his recuperated foot abled him to dance to “budots” which voters this time didn’t seem to have gotten a “kick” out of. Occurring Along Over A-while, the action-packed senate showed another dramatic action scene starring Migz Zubiri (Once Again) and Peter Cayetano of whom both almost coming to blows. As if that’s not “OA” enough, Cayetano is known to be an “Opportunistic Activist”. Remember, he ran a political ad campaign “Out of Alliance” with Robin Padilla as if taken from a poorly directed movie scene ~ they Orally Asserted their Ostentatious Approval for One Another, but quite recently, Cayetano wasn’t as Outgoingly Approving of his “Own Akin”, a brilliant TV director at that, his own brother, former Taguig Mayor Lino Cayetano who ran for a congressional seat against the candidate the older Cayetano chose to support instead. OA! I mean, Oooh, A family drama…

And as if that’s just one scene, the family feud turn of events apparently rub off on political dynasties which adds up to the thickening storylines which glue our eyes and ears to these movielike “$h!+show”. It’s this kind of controversy and an Over-trusting Audience (gullible) that fuels “bad publicity is still publicity” sort of exposure and media content to be what shapes supporters’ belief. Consequently, it’s being used to take advantage of our credulity. The “Overall Amplification” for a plot twist to all of these is that people are drawn to what they seem to believe to be the truth as melodramatically shown starring their “action heroes”. Thus, for every attack on their heroes, it’s believed to be some “bidang nabubugbog muna sa umpisa” scenario which triggers them to be on the defensive mode being the supporting actor to their deemed protagonist. However, if it’s their hero who’s doing the beating, they’re Overly Amused. Take Duterte’s war on drugs for instance, the rewarded killings and at the expense of innocent lives in violation of human rights, it was celebrated but when they’re made to objectively take responsibility, they’re intolerant of what they claim as Oppressive Attack and play the victim card. Offensively Absurd, they complain of undue process… Their Obscured Approbation to be “the most peaceful stage in history” is Outrageously Acclaimed. How could it be if it’s Out of Apprehension at the cost of anyone’s innocence… It’s the power of movielike narratives distorting history given the two or more sides to every account. Each party has a different version of the story.

Similar to how Imee Marcos is publicly known to employ film director and screenwriter Darryl Yap to twist facts, it’s “OA” or Obnoxiously Arousing either way, considering that those who believe it would be Obsessively Annoyed given the truth they’re made to believe. So who’s telling the truth? Whose “truth” is the truth? The real, the reel or “Darryl?” Would the presidential sister depict PBBM as an “Outcast Ally” in the next tale of her truth given their much publicized Objectionable Antagonism. Considering how Over Ago, they were siblings, now, there’s another theory being speculated that the big sister was “Occluded~ly Adopted” or “just” the half sister from the Romualdez side. That being so, what makes this part of the intrigue Often Absorbing is that, on the face of it, she’s self-absorbed herself with her Own Agenda against their cousin, House Speaker Martin Romualdez and her sister-in-law, First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, with her facts relating more on her alleged kowtowing association with the Dutertes. That’s another story or they, the Dutertes, have an “Open-ended Account” for a story of their own. It’s ever changing, it’s “Outrageously Altered” every time. Case in point, the flared-up VP Sara Duterte’s infamous live broadcast of her “Out-of-tune” Aggression (death threat) against the President, the House Speaker and the First Lady, apparently after which, it had her singing a different tune… A case of “Oh! Ahhh” ~ “popcorn moment” or is it Piattos moment? “Sara, not Sara!” FPRRD on the other hand, with all that machismo patronizing his Overreaching Authority, bravely admitted a lot of wrongful things of which in their defense their action ironically refutes and invalidates it Over And Over Again (now, that’s too “OA” err 2 “OAs”). They exude so much Overblown Ascendancy. So do their solid supporters… However, shouldn’t we be “OA (I mean Open-mindedly Accepting)” as well of all of these considering how it’s playing an Objective Assertion for that of everything happening for a reason?

We all know how “OA” or an Ostensible Alliance the “UniTeam” was from the get-go except for the “Obtuse Apologists” from either side. Some, Owed Allegiance. That’s on them. Yet, we have to contend with pride, both from ourselves and the opposing side which sucks us into the fray. We’re “On-purposely Attached” or Overburdened Automatically by it. We’re “OA” that way. Although it’s a different story if we’re Overwhelmingly Affected or Obviously Apologetic. Imagine those “Obligated Advocates” the likes of former action star Robin Padilla’s co-showbiz personality wife Mariel Rodriguez’s situation as she seemingly has to contend with the fact (being her own person) that given such predicament, she has to defend her husband by all means. Perhaps, even for her hubby being a “senator” for one man instead of being one for the taong bayan. I believe she’s as smart as her friends from the other side, however submissively trapped in a tight corner… We ourselves would have a hard time putting “Organized Adjectives” together for a fitting description as to how we’d Orderly Acknowledge “the honorable senator” (hmm, subukan natin). Here goes:

~ An-entitled-and-demanding-for-respect-politician-like-the-manly-bad-boy-he-was-despite-his-small-d!çk-as-magnified-in-a-viral-video, moustache-combing-legislator-inside-the-chamber-while-in-session-yet-is-still-to-prove-himself-but-until-then-he-is-deemed-incompetent-by-a-now-disappointed-public, a-kind-hearted-gentleman-according-to-some-of-his-showbiz-colleagues-and-family-yet-the-senate-is-a-different-arena, a-self-proclaimed-diehard-Duterte-supporter-and-even-cited-how-he’d-still-reek-off-such-Duterte-trace-should-you-even-burn-him-alive ~

Too much, that’ll be “OA”… But then, for Robin Padilla’s Obligatory Apprehension and humility, may he be reminded that it’s “in aid of legislation” not “in aid of One Ally”. Although, that’s how Obligatorily Accommodating we usually are when compensating for favors given our way. Take into consideration though that the most favorable thing you’ve received actually are the trust and votes of the people who aren’t under your condescending authority but rather those who help you secure you a senate seat (as a matter of fact, they don’t owe you, you owe them)… Another two showbiz personalities from the Duterte senatorial slate were Overly Adamant as to “who they’re running for”, Philip Salvador and Jimmy Bondoc. At the top of the action star’s lungs and the OPM pop star’s “anti-impeachment vote-straight “ melody, they’re Obsessive & All-consuming towards Overly Appeasing what will be beneficial for their political party’s cause and gain rather than for the country in general.

Generally speaking, about this “OA” nature, there’s more to it than Observations & Actualities… Let’s say, as per this initial episode, it somehow focused a bit from the Upper House. There’s something “lower”… There are other chapters and segments, so to speak. However, this has taken quite a while of your time. Thus, there’ll be “Others or Another” sequel. We haven’t gotten to the “juicier plots” (“papunta pa lang sa exciting part”) just yet. As much as there are other more interesting characters and storylines. This is just an Onset of the Action as far as how “OA” our political sins err scenes (Oops! Argh!) Take note, “Or Abangan”, there’s a brewing political involvement in the “missing sabungeros” current issue, another “OA” (Ongoing Assessment) which involves another showbiz personality, Gretchen Barretto. Then, from Other Angles and set locations, there’s the “OA” comparable differences of Yorme Isko Moreno of Manila and Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto of which both have showbiz DNA (“Dats Not All”); they’re “One and Another”. How about Lucky Manzano who wasn’t as lucky… Or how Manny Pacquiao wasn’t able to “pakyaw” enough votes for a knockout win. Perhaps we could also elaborate on the probability why Philip Salvador didn’t get to BRING HOME the win. It brought him home, not in the Upper House though. It would have been Oddly Awkward for Robin Padilla with Salvador and Kiko Pangilinan in the same upper chamber for the 20th congress considering “Ang Utol Ninyong Hoodlum” was romantically involved with Kris Aquino and Sharon Cuneta… “Robinhood looms out of that shadow”… How “OA” is that?! Let’s not forget, former President Joseph “Erap” Estrada and his senator son, not “the good one”, Jinggoy Estrada, both were “OA” ~ Once Actors. While Erap’s best friend, ‘Da King (of Philippine Cinema)’ FPJ would’ve been Philippine President if not for GMA’s call to the Election Commissioner then, “Hello Garci”. Outrageous Act! Ouch! Aray!” OA!! Cut! That’s a wrap. For now… Ok Alright!! Ang “OA” nga.
